This is a unique piece

Original World War Two trench-art cigarette case made from hand-worked aluminium and decorated with two enamel-backed picture panels. One side shows a sailing ship against a vivid blue and sunset-coloured sky. The reverse displays a domed mosque with flanking palm trees - a classic North African motif strongly associated with Egyptian and Italian POW workshop pieces from the mid-1940s.

The case came from the same lot as a named 1946 British soldier's "Liberation of Brussels" campaign-map case (W. J. Palmer), indicating it was part of the same group of wartime personal effects. While the exact maker cannot be confirmed, the construction, engraving style and motifs align closely with documented trench-art items produced in and around British camps in Egypt, Libya and the wider North African theatre during 1943-47.

Highlights:
Genuine WW2-era North African aluminium trench-art cigarette case
Enamel-backed mosque/temple scene with palm trees (Egyptian style)
Enamel-backed sailing ship panel with multicoloured sky
Hand-engraved borders, starburst detailing and interior decoration
Likely produced by camp artisans or Italian POWs in British-run North African camps
Provenance: found with 1946 W. J. Palmer soldier's campaign case
Attractive and increasingly scarce example with strong wartime character

Condition:
Good vintage condition with age-appropriate wear to the aluminium surface. The enamel panels are bright with some light marks from handling. Hinges and closure operate correctly. Interior shows typical engraving and mild wear from use. Please inspect all photos for full details.

Circa:
Approximately 1943-1947, consistent with North African WW2 trench-art production and the provenance of the lot it was found in.

Notes:
A high-quality and visually striking trench-art cigarette case from the wartime North African theatre. Ideal for collectors of WW2 memorabilia, desert campaign items, POW/trench art and vintage tobacciana.
