1890s Edwardian Hatpin Gilt Mount Hand-Curled Scrolls Rare Organic Art Nouveau
A truly exceptional antique hatpin dating to the late Victorian or early Edwardian period (circa 1895-1910), featuring a highly unusual and possibly unique design. The head is formed from large, hand-curled white scrolls-believed to be made from gelatin, parchment, or a similar organic material-encased in a deeply embossed gilt brass mount with delicate floral detailing.
The scrollwork displays remarkable craftsmanship, preserved under what appears to be a shellac or spirit-based protective finish. The long shaft is iron or steel, consistent with the period. This is a striking example of Art Nouveau design and organic artistry-seldom encountered in this form.
Condition: Excellent antique condition. Minor age-related wear as expected. Gilt remains bright with no verdigris or corrosion. Scroll elements are stable and intact. Please view photos for exact details.
