Vintage Merlin Japan Gas Lighter Gold Tone Automatic Pocket Lighter Untested

Vintage Merlin automatic gas pocket lighter, made in Japan.

The lighter has a broad rectangular metal body with a gently curved profile and a brushed gold-coloured finish. A recessed serrated control is positioned near the upper side, beneath a small flame-shaped opening, with the automatic ignition mechanism housed across the top.

The underside is clearly marked:

“Merlin”

The base also carries separate access fittings for the gas system and internal mechanism.
