<p><strong>Medaille für den Schutz der Arbeiter- und Bauernmacht</strong> - Medal for the Protection of Workers' and Peasants' Power, East German Democratic Republic (DDR). Instituted 1953 by the Council of Ministers of the GDR, this state decoration was awarded to members of the Volkspolizei (People's Police), Kasernierte Volkspolizei (KVP, precursor to the NVA), Ministry for State Security (Stasi), and other security and defence formations for merit in safeguarding the GDR state.</p>
<p>The silver-coloured medallion bears the East German state emblem at its centre - hammer (working class), compass (intelligentsia), and wreath of rye (peasantry) - surrounded by the raised inscription "FÜR DEN SCHUTZ DER ARBEITER-UND-BAUERN-MACHT" around the rim, enclosed by a laurel wreath border. The medal is fitted with a triangular pin-back suspension mount (Dreieckspange) in matching silver-toned metal, designed for direct wear on a uniform tunic. No fabric ribbon.</p>
<p><strong>Circa:</strong> 1953-1990 (GDR production). The design remained unchanged throughout the award's existence. The silver-coloured finish and construction are consistent with standard DDR production of the 1960s-1980s period.</p>
<p><strong>Condition:</strong> Used. The silver-coloured finish shows noticeable tarnishing and oxidation, particularly on the triangular mounting bar where darker spotting is evident. Light scratches and minor abrasions on the high points of the relief, consistent with age and wear. The raised inscription and GDR state emblem remain fully legible and well-defined. The laurel wreath border is crisp. The pin and catch mechanism on the suspension bar is intact and functional. No bends, cracks, or repairs. Please review all three photos for condition detail.</p>
