Antique Pair of Cadmium Glass Vintage Orange Bell Cloche UV Reactive 8”
Pickup currently not available
A rare and striking antique pair of glass bell cloches, handblown in vibrant yellow-orange cadmium glass. Each dome features a distinct seeded appearance with visible air bubbles, slightly asymmetric form, and heat-softened pontil shaping - clear hallmarks of 19th to early 20th century glassmaking. These domes fluoresce a vivid golden-yellow under UV light due to their cadmium content, once commonly used for rich amber and orange coloration before environmental restrictions phased it out in mid-century.
The pinkish cast seen in some photos is a reflection from UV torches and not selenium content. These domes were originally used as protective covers - possibly for seedlings, cheese, scientific storage, or decorative bell jars. Now, they make exceptional collector's pieces, photographic props, or ambient display items.
Condition: Excellent antique condition overall with light age-related wear. No major cracks or chips. Small bubbles and minor warping from the handblown process are visible and characteristic of early production. Please see photographs for full detail.
Circa: Late 1800s to 1930s
